If it doesn't close by itself, it likely won't get closed or it won't be closed completely. To have the door close fully and automatically, adjust the front legs up or the back legs down with a slight skew opposite the hinges. Not a lot, but distinctly enough that the door closes if you let go of it. Avoid too much skew, as you do not want it to slam closed.
To me this is a most basic installation process that every appliance store should have as part of their installation crew training. But as far as I know, it is not. In summary, having your vertical refrigerator and freezer door close automatically is easy and highly effective in keeping that appliance from using excess energy.
